Welcome to Fortress Pools
Wylie New Pool Builder & Remodeler
“The Fortress Philosophy”: Build the strongest structure without compromise. It does cost more to build a pool the right way. It does not cost much more! So we hedge our bet by reinforcing the structure with additional #4 steel rebar (1/2″) vs. industry standard #3 rebar (3/8″). We also use Shotcrete to give our customers the highest quality currently available.
There is a solution to this problem. An alternative to gunite is shotcrete. We have never come across a Shotcrete failure. Gunite is mixed at the nozzle and is more prone to error than other methods. Shotcrete is pre-mixed slab grade concrete sprayed by high pressure. Shotcrete offers a 6000 psi on breaking strength on core samples. This is why many engineers mandate that shotcrete, not gunite, be used on soil retainage behind structural walls on bridges and overpasses.

Sight: Your pools’ water should always be clean and clear and free from algae and not clouded. You should be able to clearly see the drain on the pool floor. Look also for drainage grills at the top of pool walls. Water should be constantly lapping over the grills to be filtered.
Touch: You should check the tiles for algae growth. If they are sticky or slippery tiles this is a sign of algae growth.
Smell: Chlorine helps keep pools healthy, and will not cause a strong chemical odor in a well-maintained pool. Strong chemical odors, as well as skin, eye or respiratory irritation, are caused by the high levels of chloramines, formed when chlorine combines with contaminants brought into pools by swimmers.
Sound: Listen for pool cleaning equipment. Properly operating pumps help make sure that clean, chlorinated water reaches all parts of the pool, while filters physically remove debris. If your pool equipment starts making a different sound, you could have a problem with your equipment which will lead to an unclean pool.
An easy way to determine if you could have a swimming pool leak is to place a bucket on the top step in your swimming pool. Fill the bucket with water so that the water level is the same as the swimming pool. Check 24 hours later to see if the levels in the bucket and the swimming pool are the same. If they are not, you should have a professional check your swimming pool for leaks.
